Community Safety Seminar Receives Warm Welcome and Appreciation

On the afternoon of May 16, 2025, about 50 Richmond Hill residents attended a free Community Safety Seminar at Rouge Woods Community Centre, hosted by Richmond Hill Regional and Local Councillor Joe DiPaola, in partnership with York Regional Police.

Richmond Hill Regional Councillor DiPaola warmly welcomed the attendees, stating:

“It’s been a productive year so far, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to continue working with York Regional Police and our new Regional Chair, former Police Chief Eric Jolliffe, to support the safety and well-being of our community. I welcome and thank everyone who joined us for this seminar and for your continued support in making Richmond Hill a safer place for all.”

The seminar, presented by York Regional Police Officers Erin Brown and Yuk Mo Chong, offered helpful tips and advice for staying vigilant and safe in public places. Topics included:

· Senior Safety and Fraud Prevention

· Distraction Thefts and Contractor Scams

· Online Buyer/Seller Awareness and Vehicle Safety

·  Carjacking and Robbery Prevention

· Security Camera Registry and the Community Safety Data Portal

Following the seminar, Regional Councillor DiPaola engaged in conversations with attendees. He received positive feedback and encouraged residents to work together to build a stronger, safer, and more connected community.

Attendees expressed appreciation for the seminar as a valuable opportunity to learn practical ways to stay safe in everyday life.
